Beauty of Madeira
Woah, did you see that?!
Funchal Favorites (Close to the Savoy Palace)

Monte Toboggan Ride
A classic! Take the cable car up to Monte for the views and the Botanical Garden, then ride down the streets in a wicker basket sled.

Mercado dos Lavradores
A vibrant fruit and flower market. It’s great for photos and trying “Anona” (custard apple) or different types of passionfruit. The workers’ market” is open every day, except on Sundays and on holidays.

Riding Wicker Toboggans
Wicker toboggans mounted on wooden runners that take riders on a downhill run through the streets of Monte.
The most popular attraction on the island and can have notoriously long waits, so plan ahead.
Beaches & Natural Pools

Porto Moniz Natural Pools
Volcanic rock pools filled by the ocean tide. It’s a unique swimming experience that’s a bit more relaxed than a mountain climb. Water shoes recommended!

The Black Sand Seixal Beach
Located on the north coast, Seixal features soft, natural black sand framed by emerald-green cliffs and waterfalls. It’s easily the most beautiful beach on the island.

Cabo Girão Skywalk
One of the highest sea cliffs in the world with a glass floor. It’s a quick, “thrill-seeker” stop.
The High Peaks

Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo (PR1)
The “bucket list” hike. It’s challenging but offers breathtaking views above the clouds. The peak to peak hike was closed in 2024 due to a fire, but is officially reopening April 2026! Pre-reserved permits are required!

Fanal Forest
Often called the “Postcard of Madeira,” this ancient laurel forest is frequently covered in mist, creating a cinematic, eerie beauty perfect for your photography interests.

Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço (PR8)
Also known as the “Dragon’s Tail” it’s dramatically different from the rest of the island. It feels like walking on the edge of the world. It’s one of the most photographed spots on the island for a reason.
The “Levada” Walks

Levada das 25 Fontes (PR6)
A relatively flat, lush walk that leads to a beautiful waterfall and lagoon. It feels like walking through a jungle.

Levada do Caldeirão Verde (PR9)
A literal fairy tale. You walk deep into the lush Laurisilva forest along an 18th-century irrigation channel. It’s an immersive, jungle-like experience.

Levada Nova & Levada do Moinho (The Waterfall Loop)
A classic “double-decker” levada walk in the sunny south. The absolute highlight is walking directly behind a waterfall that pours over the trail.
